HCG Gallery x Fancy Footwork Exhibit

HCG Gallery is host to some dope artists for their "Fancy Footwork" exhibit, which not only displays some masterful artwork, but also is serves as an outlet to provide charity for those affected by the Haitian earth quake.

HCG will be displaying work from artists: Karen Garret, Kevin McCartney, Alejandro Diaz, Sergio Garcia; and - one my favorite artists - street artists Carlos Donjuan. The "Fancy Footwork" exhibit manifests art that poses an authentic view on everything from the waist down - legs, shoes, feet, socks, etc.. The exhibit is exciting and fresh as it mixes a variety of styles together; your visual senses will definitely be pleased by this exhibit.

"Fancy Footwork" encourages visitors to participate in its shoe drive and bring shoes to provide for children of the Caribbean who were affected by the devastating earth quake.

Exhibit will be open through May 22, 2010.

Jeff Elrod x Dunn & Brown Contemporary

The Dunn & Brown Contemporary art gallery has been hosting Irving native and UNT graduate Jeff Elrod's work since late-March, and if you haven't gotten a chance to check it out then you might want to go ahead and hit Uptown to get a looksy. The artwork by Jeff Elrod found in this exhibition provides visual mastery in the form of abstract and chaotic digital lines made from Elrod's computer. After doing somewhat of a scribbling technique for his pieces with a mouse, Elrod layers bold colors and uses tape to outline the improvisational lines for his pieces to "pop." The as it may seem "accidental" art is then transformed into a digital/visual orgasm. The Jeff Elrod exhibit is running through May 1, 2010.

Lupe Fiasco x As Tall As Lions x B.O.B @ HOB Dallas

Lately I've been slacking on my tour date grind, but not to worry because Dallas will be host to some sick indie/hip-hip shows this Spring/Summer. To start it off, headliners As Tall As Lions, Lupe Fiasco, Bear Hands, B.O.B. and Dosage will be hitting the House Of Blues April 27. This show will definitely be dope with As Tall As Lions playing tracks from their latest LP "You Can't Take it With You" - one of my favorite albums - along with Lupe beastin' out new tracks from his highly anticipated album "LupE.N.D.." Good music will definitely be blessing the city of Dallas in the coming months.

Wiz Khalifa x Kush & Orange Juice

Okaaaay, Young Kahlifa finally dropped his new mixtape "Kush & Orange Juice" today (April 14, 2010) , and so far so good. Only a few tracks deep into the tape so far, and I'm definitely feelin' it due to his last LP drop "Deal or No Deal" coming up short. I'm not goin' to lie...was kinda upset I spent money on it haha, but it's all good. Wiz has definitely made up for that release with his newest work "Kush & Orange Juice", which features Curren$y, Johnny Juliano and more. Download here.

Photographer Stewart Cohen's new manifesto "Identity" features 50 portraits of interesting people ranging from Campbell Bosworth, Eryhad Badu, Philip Glass and Johnny Lee Hooker. In each photograph, Cohen ask's the individual "What makes you unique?", which allows for the viewer to delve into the characters personality, and take it for what it's really worth.

"Stewart Cohen and his camera work magic...he does more than capture people and their personalities. He explores their identity. Each page will delight you, and also make you think. It's a treasure," commented Walter Isaacson. - Via PDNB

Wes "Correct***" Berry

My bru Wes Berry has a little somethin' he's been wanting to get off his chest, and throw it out to the public. As a sleeper lyricists/writer/poet, dude wants to break the chains and let the world know what's up, as well as let the light shine on his work. I would like to introduce Wes "Correct***" Berry with his first-ever debut. Proper, I see you bra.

"You can write pen and tell teller
that I'm lost in a world where old inspires new
And to writing, no I'm not new to it
I've been doing it and nobody knew of it
Alone in my room, consumed
Throughout my life, searching for something
Something to distract, or refract what's frightening
Anger and sorrows that describe life
Dark times deserve a light, provided by bright
Casting shadows, not by the director
For this biography I need a biopsy
The death of a kid with an ill mind, autopsy
Because if this is real, I'd never wish this on an actor
I'll never know how fake feels, no placebo pills."

"Most are heard as unheard
not spoken, but loud words
eyes could listen as such powerful verbs
personifying
quietly what the hand sings
to paper or keys
replacing sounds without speech
To read between the lines would typically be
Provocative or in other ways symbolic;
Meaning, I don't need to say anything
to get my point across"

- Wes "Correct***" Berry

LuWees

Illroots put me on to this cat, and damn am I glad they did. LuWees, please get familiar with this guy because dude is def. one of a kind. His flow is a fresh of breath air and original; sticking to the blueprint of a "relaxed" style, his music is straight highway drive material. You will def. be hearing more about this dude from me in the future. Check his single "A Stop at Willoughby" prod. by J Dilla & Tony Walker.

Wale x "Break Up Song"

New unreleased track by Wale dropped yesterday. Dope

Via illRoots - "Exit Through the Gift Shop, the first film by renowned graffiti artist Banksy, became the hottest ticket at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where it made its world debut. Banksy is a graffiti artist with a global reputation whose work can be seen on walls from post—hurricane New Orleans to the separation barrier on the Palestinian West Bank. Fiercely guarding his anonymity to avoid prosecution, Banksy has so far resisted all attempts to be captured on film. Exit Through the Gift Shop tells the incredible true story of how an eccentric French shop keeper turned documentary maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner with spectacular results. The film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Invader and many of the worlds most infamous graffiti artists at work, on walls and in interview. As Banksy describes it, Its basically the story of how one man set out to film the un—filmable. And failed."

Dom Kennedy x "From the Westside w/ Love"

I'm extremely late with is, but the homie Dom Kennedy dropped a new tape late March entitled "From The Westside with Love". The new album is geared towards you...the fans; nothing but love and positivity in Dom's own form for you to get inspired from. Check the interview and download the mixtape here:
